If you're going to host your contests here, there are a few things we'd like you to keep in mind...
(these are not concrete rules, and if you don't always do things this way, we won't get mad or throw hissy fits. lol These are just a few issues we'd like people to be aware of when hosting contests, to help weed out the ones that never close and the ones that don't respect their contestants, etc.)

01. Every contest must have a deadline (a date or number of entries, whatever your preference). Don't make your deadline more than a year from the date you opened it, pretty please! You are not obligated to extend your deadline if it is requested of you, but if you agree to it, please try not to let it extend too long, or too many times. Waaay too many contests never seem to close...
02. Please try to end any voting for your contests within a month of when it closes, instead of leaving it in contest limbo forever.
03. If you refuse an entry, give an explanation to the entree of how they violated your rules or the forum rules. ("I just don't like that person" or something similarly random is not a reason to refuse an entry ) And not providing a reason for the disqualification doesn't help prevent them from making the same mistake in the future!
04. You need to have your own rules thread for your individual contests, and they need to include a link to the overall forum rules, found here. You can have as many or as little rules as you'd like, but please try to cover the basics (size restrictions, placeholding, animations, etc) so people know what you do and do not allow. Thinking something is common sense, and leaving it unsaid, is a sure way to get entries that piss you off! Just saying...
05. Please also include a questions thread where people can ask you about your contests, or allow questions to be asked in your rules thread, and keep an eye on it. Otherwise, let them know how they can reach you to ask you their question (PM, email, etc.)
Please keep these guidelines in mind when holding a contest! They are in place to help keep this forum organized and moving forward. We don't want contests that don't stick to their deadlines and go on forever, or contests that close and never hand out awards. Entrants put in a lot of work and effort to enter your contest, so please respect that. It's all basically simple common courtesies, but if you have any questions or concerns about the hosting guidelines, please feel free to respond to this thread. Thanks
